Kinds of Blue – Jakob Weidemann 1942–1957
13th of May – 27th of August 2023
Anniversary exhibition for Jakob Weidemann 100 years.
On June 14th, 2023 Jakob Weidemann would have been 100 years old. Lillehammer Art Museum celebrates one of Norway’s most important and earliest abstract artist with an anniversary exhibition.
Ever since Weidemann moved to Ringsveen in Lillehammer in 1968, his name has been connected with both the city, Lillehammer art museum, Maihaugen and the Lillehammer church.
The exhibition’s focus is on the early works of Weidemann from a stage when he developed immense imagination which conveys the impression of unlimited artistic capacity and creativity. During this time, he develops a whole univers of various, even contradictory expressions between late cubism, contretism, surrealism and expressive action painting. He has a strong position within the international development of art in the years after World War II.
The exhibition includes among others works from Christen Sveaas Kunststiftelse, who owns one of the largest Weidemann-collections.
In addition to the exhibition Weideamann’s largest painting May can be seen as a scene background in Maihaugsalen at Maihaugen until August 15th.
