ANNA ANCHER Skagen – From Within and Without

Former exhibition

13th of March – 15th of August, 2021

This summer Lillehammer Art Museum presents the largest ever retrospective exhibition about the Danish painter Anna Ancher.

Anna Ancher is without doubt one of the largest and most popular Nordic artists of the period 1880–1920. Her sunny interiors and intimate portraits belong to the canon of Nordic art. The exhibition includes nearly 200 pieces, which makes it the largest ever solo exhibition of Ancher's art.

Anna Ancher is praised for her boundary-breaking use of colour and her marvellous ability to capture a ray of sunshine. But she is much more than that. Now, Lillehammer Art Museum takes a fresh look at Anna Ancher’s art in the largest retrospective ever staged about the artist.

With this exhibition, we seek to take Anna Ancher out of Skagen, lifting her out of the famous artist’s colony there and placing her within the wider – international – context her art certainly merits.
